It\u2019s found everywhere. Ancient ironwork smashed into pleasing shapes, structures and intricate patterns is still with us, the march of time barely giving it a second glance.\u00a0Wrought iron hangs up our bread boards, stores our wine, clads our ships and provides France with her most enduring icon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2617\" src=\"http:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bread-board-handle-for-blog.jpg\" alt=\"bread-board-handle-for-blog\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bread-board-handle-for-blog.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bread-board-handle-for-blog-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The industrial revolution may have turned our heads towards the new mechanical means of production but handmade, handcrafted ironwork still holds an incomparable allure.\u00a0In fact, in the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century, wrought ironwork and its blacksmiths have returned with some vigour as the desire for material permanence has trumped the built in obsolescence of the poorly made product.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2623\" src=\"http:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Working-on-anvil-blog.jpg\" alt=\"working-on-anvil-blog\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Working-on-anvil-blog.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.madebytheforge.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Working-on-anvil-blog-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last commercial wrought ironworks factory closed in 1974 but despite this, the skill of \u2018working\u2019 iron (\u2018wrought\u2019 is an archaic form of \u2018worked\u2019) is still with us and the products highly prized and appreciated for their quality.
